The government signed a resolution specifying construction procedures for "Moscow-Kazan" high-speed railway line (HSL).
In the country it is going to be the first railway line of such level. It will be possible to reach Kazan from Moscow within 3.5 hours with stops in Vladimir, Nizhni Novgorod, Cheboksary. In prospective it is planned to extend the line to Yekaterinburg and then, further probably up to Beijing. However a high-speed train shall cover the route from Moscow to Ekaterinburg within 8 hours.
It is expected that HSL will be used by trains accelerating to 400 km/h , rapid local trains making up to 200 km/h, rapid night long-distance trains, freight and container trains making up to 160 km/h. Total project costs may exceed RUR 1 trillion.
