Exports from "Collaboration between Local Authorities and Small Firms for Local Development in Russia and Latvia", an international grant project, will try to issue recommendations to be put by Novgorod businessmen in practice. For this purpose, they will have to explore strengths and weaknesses, challenges and development prospects of Novgorod-based small businesses.

The first meeting between the experts, who included scientists from leading universities of Sweden, Finland, Latvia and Russia, and Novgorod entrepreneurs, deputies and representatives of the Mayor's Office took place on the 13th of January. Cooperation is expected to continue until the end of September this year.

The meeting voiced administrative barriers and lack of business-to-government communication as a key challenge faced by businesses. The meeting decided to invite businessmen from Sweden, Finland and Latvia in order to find out how this problem is handled abroad.
