Having abandoned his hope to find any conventional sausage in Russia, a man descended from an Austrian family of butchers has opened a facility in Saint Petersburg to produce sausages based on German recipes. A total of EUR 90 thousand was invested in the project.

Gunter Yashke, a representative of the fourth generation of an Austrian family of butchers, who has worked in Russia since 2000 as a distributor of spices and recipes for meat processing plants, launched its business in Saint Petersburg at the end of the last year – a small plant producing sausages based on traditional Austrian and German recipes operating under 'Gunter`s' trademark (LLC Gunter's Meat Products).

The company has five full-time employees with 14 persons working in total including outsourced distribution, logistic and accounting functions. Today, the company's profitability is 25%. According to the entrepreneur, he closely follows recipes when making his products and does not expect his plant to generate any super profit. "For instance, meat is soaked in sea salt and spices for 2 weeks", the Austrian businessman told. "Freezing raw materials, and therefore money, for such a long period is an inconceivable thing for Russian processors. Everyone here wants everything very quickly."

The sale of the output is being arranged through premium class outlet chains ("Azbuka Vkusa", "Superbabilon") and the HoReCa segment. His meat products are also bought by hotels and some European consulate departments. Negotiations are ongoing with Metro Cash and Kerry chain.
