A large lot of high producing dairy cows is expected to be imported to Sakhalin from New Zealand, according to the Sakhalin Region Governor's and Government's Information Policy Administration.

Representatives of Fronterra, one of the South Kingdom's leading enterprises, have visited the Government of Vladivostok's island area. Their proposals were heard by the Minister of Agriculture, Mikhail Kuzmenko. The meeting was also participated by Martin Tate, the Honorary Consul of New Zealand to Vladivostok.

Major investment projects relating to cattle breeding initiatives are intensively implemented in Sakhalin nowadays. In November 2016, the first dairy megafarm is going to be erected based on Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk state farm. The first lot to be delivered there is going to total 1,200 heads of a breeding herd. Several options for bringing the livestock to the Region are being considered to be selected. The delivery from New Zealand is one of the most attractive options.

Foreigners offer Sakhalin stock-breeders their livestock representing Holstein-Friesian strains of cattle featuring powerful genetics Previously, these cows were delivered from Australia. Such cows are capable of giving up to 10,000 liters of high-fat and high-protein milk per annum.

The price of one cow offered by New Zealand sellers is approximately RUB 100,000 lower than that of competitors which is much less. If the contract is executed, it will take 23 days to bring the livestock to Sakhalin by farm employees. The firm's management also offers expert advisory services to tell how to properly tend for the animals. Up until this time, Fronterra delivered these cows to China.

"We now need to comprehensively consider all of the proposals to deliver high-producing livestock to Sakhalin, including from New Zealand. We have to embark on detailed calculations and compare all pros and cons. Following this, in April this year, we will make a final decision and refer the suppliers to the investors implementing cattle breeding projects with our support", Mr. Kuzmenko said.
