Saint Petersburg and Ecuador to develop cooperation

On 31 March 2016, a meeting was held in the Mariinsky Palace between Viacheslav Makarov, the Chairman of Saint Petersburg's Legislative Assembly, and a delegation of the Republic of Ecuador's National Assembly headed by the National Assembly's Chairman Gabriela Rivadeneira. The meeting was also attended by Rafail Zinurov, a member of the Federal Council, Marina Sishkina, a Deputy of Saint Petersburg's Legislative Assembly, and representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ms. Rivadeneira noted that the development of cooperation with Russia is one of top priority tasks for Ecuador. Russian investments in the Republic's infrastructural and power initiatives have a significant effect on the shaping of the South American country's economy. Ecuador, in turn, is ready to expand the volume and range of its food exports to Russia. The Republic also puts hopes on developing contacts in education and culture. The Chairman of the National Assembly expressed confidence that Ecuador's relations with Saint Petersburg will turn into strategic partnership after a while.
