In early April, a delegation from the Lipetsk Region took part in the work of a Milan forum called "Russia: new industrial cooperation model." The forum took place in Lombardia Province.

Viacheslav Scheglevatikh, a Deputy Director of the Lipetsk Regional Administration, held a presentation depicting the potential of the Region and Lipetsk Special Economic zone. Today, the SEZ's residents include several companies featuring Italian equity.

According to the Lipetsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Executive Director Vasily Goltsov, Italian entrepreneurs realize that the existing sale restrictions will intensify the development of Russia's own agricultural sector. The Italians now plan to sell their newest technology.

Their experience in creating modern technological clusters may be useful for Russian industrialists. "We have inspected phase 1 of Polo Technologico Vimercate, which has been created recently", Vasily Goltsov said. "We have also interfaced with its residents. The largest research and development center is located in Monza and Brianza Province, where the industrial sector alone includes more than 70,000 small and medium enterprises. The technological cluster was opened at the expense of private investors. Costs incurred to create and maintain the cluster are impressive: more than EUR 50 mln were spent to lease land assets and a similar amount was incurred as capital outlays. As estimated by experts, the project's payback period is 10 years. The technological cluster's main priority is the work which is carried out by scientists and researchers who are able to readily apply their inventions in practice. Moreover, their certification, patent and know-how sale systems are well developed."

The Lipetsk delegation's representatives have communicated with directors of Italian pharmaceutical companies. The Italians have taken interest in our enterprise called Refarma and are ready to offer their advanced methods and technology employed to produce medicines and medical supplies. Having studied the Voronezh and Lipetsk markets, the Apennine partners have offered technology that will allow to considerably reduce the prime cost of agricultural products.
