Faroes plan to develop cooperation with Murmansk Region in aquaculture and fish processing

A working meeting has taken place between Andrei Ivanov, the Chairman of the Murmansk Region Fisheries Industry Committee, Yuri Smirnov, the Region's Deputy Minister of Economic Development, and Bjorn Kunoy, the Director of the Faroe Islands' Moscow Representative Office.

The meeting discussed a visit to Murmansk expected to be made by representatives of Faroes' enterprises dealing with aquaculture and fish processing. The delegation will arrive at Murmansk to establish bilateral contacts, discuss cooperation prospects and exchange experience.

Andrei Ivanov reminded that the Faroe Islands have never joined the sanctions imposed by a number of countries on Russia which makes favorable conditions for closer cooperation. The Murmansk Region expects to benefit from its cooperation with the Faroe Islands due to potential increases in the onshore processing and supplies of pelagic fish species, primarily, mackerel and perch.

Bjorn Kunoy emphasized that the Murmansk Region and Faroes feature a great potential for bilateral cooperation.
