Nizhny Novgorod Region implementing Russia's largest mushroom production project
A project devoted to mushroom production is being implemented in the Shemisheysky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region. It will be used to grow oysters, shiitake and honey fungus.
The project intended to create a major mushroom farm is well under way in the Shemisheysky District. A Chinese company has become the project's investor and invested more than RUB 300 million.
"Mushrooms will be grown in pits having a depth of up to 3 meters", Gocian Lu, the investor's representative, told. "This will allow going without a heating system and incurring serious costs". According to him, the farm's capacity must reach 6–8 tonnes of mushrooms per day.
The construction of a substrate production shop is proceeding at full speed now. It will be used to grow corn-based liquid mycelia for mushroom spawns. This technology is exotic for Russia. There will be no problems with raw materials as the company is already executing agreements for supplying maize cobs from agricultural producers. This will generate extra profits for them as cobs were always treated as a waste.
In a couple of years, when the farm starts operating at full capacity, a mushroom drying and canning shop is planned to be launched there. It will also feature equipment designed to pack wastes of the mushroom production. This protein-rich biomass is very popular among agrarians as a valuable fertilizer.
