Sports & Tourists Complex "Mountain Air" in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk has proceeded to constructing two ropeways.
Tractors and powerdozers arrived at the Bolshevik Mountain's slopes early this week. The slope which is intended to accommodate the northward ropeway is being developed first. It will be 900 m long. Two ski-trails will be laid on the left and right of the chairlift.
The ski-trails are expected to be completed in December. Excavation work is going to have been completed by September. This will be followed by the installation of equipment manufactured by Doppelmayr (Austria). The company is a leader in ropeway construction and it was a preferable contractor awarded the erection of most of Sochi's Olympic facilities.
"Our experts will arrive at Sakhalin at the installation phase. They will supervise the installation of supports and carry out commissioning operations. Each millimeter will be subject to control. All equipment will be covered by warranty", Evgeny Scherbak, a representative of Doppelmayr Russia, said. According to him, the capacity of the ropeways will be 2,000 persons per hour with their movement speed being 5 m/sec.
LLC Doppelmayr Russia has constructed more than 14,000 ropeways for clients from among 85 countries.
