Investors from Korea plan to embark on growing apples in the Aniva District, Sakhalin Region. The first phase contemplates that three hectares will be devoted to the apple garden. Young plants from the Land of the Morning Calm are likely to be planted in autumn, explained the local government's Press Office to Ostrova TIA. The prospects of such work were discussed at a meeting held between Mikhail Kuzmenko heading the Regional Ministry of Agriculture and a delegation arrived from Kensan-Punkto, a South Korean province. The delegation is headed by Director of Agriculture, Stock Breeding and Trade Choi Ung.

Hun Dok Su, a businessman from the province, has been growing vegetables at Sakhalin in unprotected ground for two years. He is a co-owner of a company operating three farms in the Aniva and Dolinsk Districts. Now he has allowed using a portion of his lands for planting apple trees.

The delegation has, among its members, experts who are employed by South Korean companies dealing with apple growing. They have already inspected the area allocated for the garden. There are land improvement proposals. “The work is challenging, but I will try to have it completed by autumn”, the businessman told.

Representatives of Kensan-Punkto are going to develop cooperation with the Sakhalin Region based on Hun Dok Su's company. There are ideas on creating out of door strawberry plantations with stock breeding development options being considered.

"Today, we see several directions in which joint projects may be implemented. We hope that the apple garden will be set out in autumn. Your province features developed beef production and we will support you in this work at Sakhalin", Regional Minister of Agriculture Mikhail Kuzmenko summarized.
