Mercator Kaluga boosts localization in Russian market

On the 22nd of June, Mercator Kaluga plant situated in Kaluga-South technology park held a ceremony to officially launch its string designed to produce VKM 2020 compact suction sweeper for the needs of municipal utility and road maintenance companies. The ceremony was attended by First Vice President of Mercator Holding Alexander Belogortsev, Managing Director of Bucher Municipal AG Rolf Huber and Managing Director of Bucher Municipal Winter AG Guido Giletta.

The new production string is a result of investment and technological cooperation between Swiss BUCHER Municipal (global leader in developing and manufacturing special road and utility machines) and Russian Mercator Holding. The string's capacity is 50 machines per month. New 20 jobs have been created.

LLC Mercator Kaluga is a modern enterprise featuring EU technology and manufacturing road and construction, utility and automotive specialty vehicles. The facility's key products include suction sweepers, combined machines, sanitation trucks and compact pavement cleaning machines. Mercator's holding company accounts for more than 42% in the Russian market of combined road machines.

Rolf Huber noted that the company that wants to remain a global leader in its segment may not ignore the Russian market. "By investing into Russia, we express trust. For us, the Kaluga Region is a region suitable for effective investments featuring innovative technology base and high quality human resources", Mr. Huber explained.

In speaking of the development of the Kaluga-based facility, Guido Giletta emphasized that the company succeeded in crafting a Russian product of supreme quality. "Most components were imported from Europe. Now we are focused on boosting localization opening new production strings", Guido Giletta commented.

'Mercator' plant is a co-project involving BUCHER–Guyer AG, a major EU conglomerate, and Giletta S.p.a., its Italian subdivision, specializing in the manufacturing of special utility service vehicles designed to clean and maintain motor roads and streets. The total amount to be invested into the Kaluga facility will be RUB 500 million.
