Egypt is stepping up exports of agricultural products to Russia

Egypt significantly increased the export of agricultural products to Russia continues to increase shipments due to the continuing counter-sanctions, said RIA Novosti Deputy head of the Committee of the Egyptian Parliament on agriculture Hisham al-Husri.

Four years ago, on 6 August 2014 the President of Russia Vladimir Putin forbade import to Russia of certain agricultural products, raw materials and food from countries that have applied sanctions against Russia: US, EU States, Canada, Australia and Norway. A ban were meat, sausage, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, dairy products.

"We want to use the counter-sanctions that Russia imposed against European Union countries, as the Russian market is crucial for Egypt along with the Chinese," — said the Agency interlocutor.

The first of August, the Egyptian authorities have published data on the export of agricultural products for the period from September 2017 to may 2018, according to which Russia became the main buyer of Egyptian fruit and vegetables, ahead of Saudi Arabia and the EU. During this period, Egypt has put to Russia of agricultural products for the sum more than 307 million dollars.

At the same time, according to Egyptian Deputy, the supply of agricultural products to Russia by the end of 2018, could grow by 25% compared with 2017. "the Council on exports of agricultural products subject is engaged in the Russian market with the aim of increasing the supply. It is obvious that the demand for vegetables and fruits in Russia is growing," said al-Husri.

According to him, the Egyptian manufacturers have significantly increased the supply of grapes and tangerines, "by which competition in the Russian market is not as high as in the case of oranges imported to Russia from different countries."

The parliamentarian also said that during the upcoming session of the Egyptian deputies intend to discuss a number of laws aimed at increasing agricultural exports.
