In 2018 Russia’s import of antiques of an age exceeding one hundred years amounted to $20.5 mln and was 30 times as much as the figure of 2017.
Such a rapid import growth was caused by the emergence of a new large supplier, namely Switzerland. According to the Federal Custom Service of Russia, in 2016 and 2017 there were no antiques supplies from this country, but in 2018 Switzerland accounted for 98% of Russia’s import of this production ($20 mln).
Alongside with Switzerland other antiques suppliers to Russian market in 2018 included such countries as the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the USA and others. The share of these countries in Russia’s antiques import was negligent (less than 2%).
The main part of import antiques supplies went to St. Petersburg city ($20.3 mln) that accounted for 99% of Russia’s import of this production. Besides, antiques were imported by Moscow city ($124 thous.), Moscow Region ($98 thous.), Irkutsk Region ($7 thous.) and Sverdlovsk Region ($5 thous.).
